Individual Psychotherapy
Individual psychotherapy is a process in which you and your therapist work collaboratively on your goals within a safe and supportive environment. Individual psychotherapy can help you to explore changes you are trying to make, can help you gain understanding about yourself, and can help you develop skills to promote growth and change. This type of therapy can offer a space in which you explore your emotions, beliefs, and behaviors, and begin to work through difficulties you are experiencing. The goal of individual psychotherapy is ultimately to enhance your mental well-being, to promote self-awareness, to offer support, and to empower you to live in a way which aligns with your values and goals.
Although everyone seeks therapy for different reasons, some common reasons include: pursuing personal growth and understanding of self, addressing relational difficulties, coping with grief and loss, managing symptoms of depression and anxiety, building emotional understanding and/or emotion regulation skills, managing life transitions, addressing experienced trauma, improving personal relationships, managing stress and burnout, and more.
Relational Therapy
Relational therapy supports the functioning of relationships within couples, families, and other close relationships. Relational therapy focuses on addressing communication difficulties and conflict, exploring relational needs, and understanding interpersonal dynamics. Often, the goal of relational therapy is to create increased understanding of shared difficulties, develop effective strategies for resolving conflict and/or communicating, and to clarify and facilitate growth towards shared goals.
Couples therapy, often known as relational/relationship therapy or marriage counselling, is relevant for individuals at any stage in their relationship. This type of therapy will help you to explore different aspects of your relationship and the difficulties you experience, as well as how your individual feelings, beliefs, behaviors, values, and needs are impacting the relationship. Couples therapy is often sought for reasons such as: strengthening the relationship, improving communication, building conflict resolution skills, addressing intimacy and sexual concerns, building parenting skills, navigating blended family dynamics, addressing issues related to trust and infidelity, exploring the future of the relationship, coping with life transitions, and more.
Family therapy is relevant for all types of family relationships such as extended families, sibling relationships, blended family, families of choice, co-parents, step-parents, parents of adult children, families with separation or divorce, families with adoption, intergenerational relationships, and more. This type of therapy focuses on addressing difficulties experiences within the context of the family unit. In family therapy, family members work with the therapist to explore and understand their interpersonal dynamics, communication and behaviour patterns, and interactions that contribute to difficulties experienced. The goal of family therapy is often to improve communication, increase the strength of relationships, as well as clarify and facilitate growth towards shared family values or goals. Family therapy is often sought for reasons such as: addressing recurring family conflict, understanding communication breakdowns, addressing parenting challenges, exploring behavioural concerns, navigating blended family dynamics, providing support through major life transitions, developing conflict resolution skills, promoting connection, and more.
